Gabrielle Touchette

Welcome and thanks for visiting my blog! I'm a freelance photographer based in Winnipeg, Canada and I absolutely love what I do. I started my photography business a couple years ago after graduating from PrairieView School of Photography with a diploma in professional photography. What I learned at school was invaluable but I don't believe a diploma is more important than a strong portfolio.

My love of photography started a long time ago with a point & shoot camera, and my passion for this art form continues to grow with every shoot I do. I love photographing people and events and I am captivated by honest emotion and fleeting moments. My first love is the creation of photographic art and I'm in the constant pursuit of capturing the unconventional beauty of life. I believe every photograph should have intention because everything has a story and a purpose to communicate.

When I'm not busy shooting weddings, portraits or events, I teach photography classes at PrairieView and work on art projects for exhibitions with my photographic art collective, f/action.

"To take photographs means to recognize - simultaneously and within a fraction of a second - both the fact itself and the rigorous organization of visually perceived forms that give it meaning. It is putting one's head, one's eye and one's heart on the same axis."

-Henri Cartier-Bresson

Chantal & Andrew – Winnipeg Wedding Photography

I’ve been anticipating Chantal and Andrew’s wedding for over a year and a half now. When you get a booking almost 2 years in advance, it seems like the wedding day is so far away, especially as so many other weddings are booked and photographed in between. I knew this wedding would be well-worth the wait: a 12-person wedding party with tons of energy and laughter, a beautiful day and a romantic couple!

Since shooting their engagement session last summer, I noticed a spark between these two that I absolutely fell in love with. The chemistry and closeness they have came through in the engagement session, and I couldn’t wait to witness their wedding day. August 2010 finally came, and with 12 hours of photo coverage on their wedding day, we were able to capture great moments in the morning as the girls and guys were getting ready, as well as 6 locations with the wedding party (including a stop at my studio for a quick lunch and some indoor photos), finished off by a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Pine Ridge Golf Club and a hoppin’ dinner & dance reception. What a great way to celebrate love, friendship, family and a new chapter to their story! Congratulations Chantal and Andrew!!

Candid Kid Photos: at the park!

My favourite way to photograph children is when it’s natural, candid and not posed – which often brings me to the park. Kids love to run around and to just be kids! So what better way than having them unaware of the camera and having fun. I had just as much fun running around the playground myself, snapping shots as Avari and Judah were busy exploring, climbing, sliding and swinging. Cute kids! Photography at its most natural: catching those spur of the moment shots is what makes it so special. :)

Colleen & Justin – Wedding Photography at Assiniboine Park

Oh yes – Colleen and Justin – what a fun day! A 12-person wedding party usually means that it’ll be a lively and fun day — and this was true with these guys. Always laughing and joking around, this couple had one fun bunch of friends & siblings! The picture taking went by fast as there was always something crazy or outrageous going on (never a dull moment, especially with the guys!), and then the few moments I did have alone with the couple were just as moving and beautiful (if not more!) as their engagement session was a few months earlier. Even the speeches and dancing were fun! Terrace 55 did a wonderful job and I was happy to be back there again to shoot another wedding so soon. I had so many pictures I wanted to blog… but I managed to pare it down to these ones. Congratulations Colleen & Justin – Duncan and I certainly had fun shooting your wedding! What a beautiful and memorable day. All the best in your new life together. :)

Tannis & Paul: Wedding Photography at the Gates

I had been looking forward to this wedding for some time, knowing that it would be set outdoors at the beautiful riverside grounds of the Gates with a couple whose style and passion I admired. They really wanted the true, natural essence of their day to come through with candid, sincere photos, and I too wanted nothing more than that. From the first time we met, I knew I absolutely wanted to work with them, and I’m sure glad they felt the same way too!

It was a gorgeous day (pretty hot though, although I’ll take the heat over a rained out day!), and I had my talented second photographer working with me, as usual. Thanks to Duncan McNairnay for doing a great job at capturing those great in-between moments and fly-on-the-wall shots. I’ve included a few of his shots below, as well as some of the highlights from my time with Tannis and Paul. Enjoy!
