Gabrielle Touchette

Welcome and thanks for visiting my blog! I'm a freelance photographer based in Winnipeg, Canada and I absolutely love what I do. I started my photography business a couple years ago after graduating from PrairieView School of Photography with a diploma in professional photography. What I learned at school was invaluable but I don't believe a diploma is more important than a strong portfolio.

My love of photography started a long time ago with a point & shoot camera, and my passion for this art form continues to grow with every shoot I do. I love photographing people and events and I am captivated by honest emotion and fleeting moments. My first love is the creation of photographic art and I'm in the constant pursuit of capturing the unconventional beauty of life. I believe every photograph should have intention because everything has a story and a purpose to communicate.

When I'm not busy shooting weddings, portraits or events, I teach photography classes at PrairieView and work on art projects for exhibitions with my photographic art collective, f/action.

"To take photographs means to recognize - simultaneously and within a fraction of a second - both the fact itself and the rigorous organization of visually perceived forms that give it meaning. It is putting one's head, one's eye and one's heart on the same axis."

-Henri Cartier-Bresson

Portrait Sessions: When the lens points at you!

As a photographer, I come across a lot of people who absolutely dread being in front of the camera. Just as much as I know people who love being in the spotlight, there are those that would rather not have a lens in their face. It’s a common sentiment and I can absolutely sympathize with them. But I think that given the right coaxing and directing, any awkward feeling person can end up getting awesome photos of themselves out of a portrait session.

The thing I love about doing portrait photography is the immense diversity of people’s faces and looks, their body language, their style and most importantly, their personality. Every portrait session is different, and I love pursuing the capture of the nuances that all make us different from one another.

Mandy loves photography but prefers being behind the lens. She agreed to be my subject for a short portrait shoot and I think she turned out amazingly well. These photos of her prove that feeling awkward about being photographed is completely curable! Everyone’s beauty comes out in different ways, and sometimes it comes out when you least expect it. Thanks Mandy for being a lovely face to capture!
