Crystal & Jarrett – Engagement Photo Session at Assiniboine Park

If you live in Winnipeg, you might remember the day that the mosquito trap count soared to 1,300. It was all over the news. And yes, it happened to be the day that Crystal & Jarrett booked an engagement photo session with me. At Assiniboine Park, in the English Gardens, as the sun was setting, no less. And to top it, all three of us forgot to bring bug spray! Cancel the shoot? No way! It was a beautiful evening, golden light from the summer sun and a couple madly in love. It was perfect! Ok, minus the mosquitoes (which we couldn’t ignore). Poor Crystal – I spent quite some time in post production spot removing huge mosquito bite welts off her skin!

All I can say is that mosquitoes, as annoying as they were, cannot stop a session – it made for a memorable experience and I was happy to be able to laugh about it with the two of them. All the more reason to look forward to photographing their wedding next year. I know we’ll have fun and it’ll be a memorable day, no matter what happens!

Congratulations Crystal & Jarrett, I’m looking forward to what the summer of 2011 will bring. :)

Free Engagement Session Winners!

Back in November 2009 I donated an engagement session for an auction put on by Weddings in Winnipeg at the Grand Wedding Showcase held here in Winnipeg. The lucky winners of the engagement session were Faylin and Ryley – who I finally got to meet a couple weeks ago! We had been talking by phone and e-mail for quite some time, planning the perfect day to take engagement photos at Fort Whyte Centre. We finally met on a gorgeous, sunny (and hot!) Saturday morning and had a wonderful time taking pictures. They were an adorable couple with a great sense of humour. I was happy to be a part of the auction, raising support for a brand new not-for-profit organization: Learn Love, and even happier to meet Fay & Ryley for an engagement session. All the best to the organization and to the couple!

Colleen & Justin – Engagement Photos

It was on a cool and humid day that I met up with Colleen & Justin for engagement photos… not sure if it was going to rain… but having my studio as a back up location just in case. The rain stayed away (for the most part) and we ended up getting some gorgeous lighting & colours throughout the exchange district and Waterfront drive. And at the end, we still took a few quick shots in the studio anyway. Before starting, Colleen confessed to feeling awkward in front of cameras, but as you can see, it didn’t show at all! They were both very comfortable with each other and with me, and we ended up having a great time. Whenever I do engagement photos, it gets me even more excited to shoot the wedding – and theirs is no exception! Just a few short months away! Congrats you two. :)

Courtney & Cole {Engagement Photography Winnipeg}

Happy New Year everyone! I can’t believe how fast 2009 has gone, but at the same time it’s been an eventful year! It’s been such a wonderful experience to meet so many new people – couples who are celebrating the beginning of their new lives together, families who are welcoming new arrivals, artists and musicians who are pursuing their passions and other photographers who have inspired and encouraged me. I’m looking forward to the coming months where new and exciting changes are coming: including a new (and absolutely gorgeous) studio space I will now be renting in the Exchange District. More details on that soon…. you don’t want to miss this!

Today I just finished editing a lovely engagement photo shoot with Courtney & Cole – a delightful couple from Lloydminster, Saskatchewan that I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time on Tuesday. They drove in (braving the crazy winter prairie highways) all the way to Winnipeg during the Christmas holidays, and it was great to finally put faces to the names! We had “met” over the phone a few months ago, and after our conversations, I just knew they were going to be a fun, easy-going pair. They’re the type of people who you can sit down for coffee with and talk for hours about everything and nothing. It was great to see their colourful personalities and love for each other coming through even in front of a camera – they were naturals!

Although we’re starting to experience the deep freeze here in Winnipeg, that didn’t stop us from taking some fun photos outside too. Thanks you two for braving the cold for some lovely shots! You guys look adorable and I can’t wait for the wedding!

Engagement Session Along the Assiniboine River

Here are some photos from a recent engagement session with Janelle and Barrett. We met up at the park along Wellington Crescent (right next to 529 Wellington) on a humid autumn evening. Although the sun didn’t make an appearance, we got some great shots amongst the saturated colours of the trees. It was a beautiful setting! Janelle and Barrett were a ton of fun – they posed for some romantic shots, but also pulled off some pretty hilarious shots. I’ve got one here of their “sweater” portraits, over-sized comfy sweaters that were reminiscent of the actual proposal, and we got some “action shots” of them running and jumping into each other’s arms (of which I will not post! They’re pretty funny, but I’ll leave it up to them if they want to share it with the online public). :)

I’m really looking forward to shooting their wedding. They’re super easy-going and naturals in front of the camera. I guess it’s easy when you’re very much in love with your best friend. Congrats guys! See you in the summer!
